Yankees’ Ryan LaMarre exits with hamstring injury

ARLINGTON, Texas — Just as the Yankees got Gleyber Torres back off the COVID-19 injured list, their outfield depth took another hit Wednesday. Clint Frazier sat with neck discomfort and Ryan LaMarre left the Yankees’ 2-0 victory over the Rangers with a right hamstring injury after pulling up while running to first base.

LaMarre, just recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace the injured Aaron Hicks, will undergo further tests in New York. LaMarre was replaced in right field by Tyler Wade.

If LaMarre and Frazier miss time, there’s not a lot to choose from in the minors. Estevan Florial is the only outfielder on the 40-man roster and Greg Allen is on the IL.

The struggling Frazier first mentioned the neck discomfort Tuesday, which manager Aaron Boone said was a planned day off.

Boone said it’s unclear whether it’s related to the terrific diving catch Frazier made in right field at Camden Yards on Sunday.

“We’re looking into all that,’’ Boone said. “He’s been getting treatment and different testing.”

Boone said Frazier, who took part in pregame activities, was getting a “battery of tests” to determine the extent and cause of the injury.

Torres had been out since May 11. He was activated off the IL after doing baseball activities at the player development complex in Tampa on Monday and Tuesday following quarantine there since his positive test.

Torres is so far the only Yankees player to test positive, but the team is still missing pitching coach Matt Blake, first base coach Reggie Willits and third base coach Phil Nevin, as well as five other unnamed staff members of their traveling party.

To make room for Torres’ return to the roster, Rougned Odor was placed on the paternity IL after his wife gave birth to a girl.

Odor starred against his former team Tuesday after his return from the 10-day IL with a sprained left knee. Odor had two hits and made a pair of superb plays at second base.
